As professional wedding photographers, we at Eiva Photography have been fortunate to document weddings in some of the UK’s most picturesque venues—but Moreteyne Manor in Bedfordshire stands out. Nestled in Marston Moretaine, just a short drive from Milton Keynes, this historic Tudor moated manor offers: romance, refinement, and remarkable backdrops for every season.

We recently had the pleasure of shooting a wedding here, and we’re excited to share just how magical it was—from the golden hour light by the bridge, to heartfelt ceremonies inside the house, and the cuisine that wowed every guest.

A Historic Moated Setting Full of Character

Built in the 16th century and surrounded by a still-water moat, Moreteyne Manor exudes English charm and history. The original timber-framed exterior, ancient Mulberry tree, and ivy-covered facade transport you into a storybook setting—a dream for wedding photography at any time of year.

What makes this venue especially magical is how each season brings its own charm:

  • Spring: Blossom-lined trees and fresh greens reflect beautifully in the moat.
  • Summer: Perfect for outdoor ceremonies, drinks in the gardens, and al fresco photos in soft golden sunlight.
  • Autumn: Rich foliage and soft afternoon light lend a warm, rustic palette to every frame.
  • Winter: Candlelight, roaring fires, and timber-beamed rooms make it feel like a romantic period film—ideal for moody, dramatic shots.

Wedding Ceremony & Reception Spaces

The Manor House & Licensed Rooms

Moreteyne Manor offers several licensed rooms for civil ceremonies, depending on the size of your wedding:

  • The Betty Howe Suite – Ideal for intimate weddings (12–18 guests) with a cozy, traditional atmosphere
  • The Mulberry Room – Perfect for 40–60 guests, featuring a view of the ancient mulberry tree and its own private bar
  • The Garden Marquee – Available from April to October, this outdoor option holds 80+ guests and allows for ceremonies with a countryside feel
  • Indoor & Outdoor Transitions

Many couples choose to say their vows indoors and enjoy a drinks reception outside, taking full advantage of the manicured garden and natural backdrops.

Food & Drink – Dining in a Manor Setting

One thing Moreteyne Manor is especially known for is its exceptional cuisine. The owners are deeply involved in the culinary experience, and it shows in every bite.

  • Starters might include wild mushroom parcels, goat cheese tartlets, or smoked salmon cakes.
  • Mains range from fillet of beef with truffle butter, to pan-roasted cod loin and vegetarian wellingtons.
  • Desserts like lemon tart, rich chocolate terrine, and a trio of local ice creams add a decadent finish.

The venue includes private bar with curated wine lists, signature cocktails, and non-alcoholic options. Whether you’re enjoying welcome drinks or celebrating late into the evening, everything is elegantly taken care of.

Golden Hour Photography – A Must at Moreteyne

One of the absolute highlights from our recent shoot was photographing the couple just before sunset, during the golden hour. At Moreteyne Manor, this time of day is pure magic: the soft, amber light gently hits the timber frames, the still water of the moat reflects the sky, and everything feels cinematic.

Top Tip:

Golden hour portraits are best done around the moat and bridge area. However, if you're planning a petal toss, it’s important to note: petals are only permitted in the car park area, before crossing the bridge. This is to preserve the historic grounds and prevent disruption to the surrounding wildlife and water features.

We’ve worked around this beautifully—capturing fun, joyful confetti shots in the car park.

Evening Reception – Dancing, DJ, and Celebration

As the sun sets, the atmosphere shifts seamlessly from timeless charm to celebration mode. The Mulberry Room and Marquee areas feature:

  • dedicated dancefloor
  • Fully equipped DJ booth
  • Flexible seating for those wanting to relax and chat
  • Lighting options for romantic ambiance or full-on party vibes

From a photography perspective, this means we can capture emotional first danceswild party moments without logistical interruptions.

Confetti Etiquette & Photography Flow

As mentioned earlier, petals and confetti are only allowed in the car park. We love to choreograph a joyful exit here before guiding couples across the iconic bridge for those timeless romantic portraits.

Once inside the Manor or Mulberry Room, couples can relax and enjoy uninterrupted celebration while we continue capturing candid moments, laughter, speeches, and dancing.
